I have known about this field trip for a month and a half. The buses were ordered, monies were paid, and the teachers, the chaperones, Maya's class, along with two other classes, were rarin' to go.
On the day of the field trip, the principal CANCELS it, claiming that she didn't see the paperwork she needed to approve the trip.
That would have washed, if SHE hadn't postponed the first actual day of the trip, which was April 26th.
If you were going to cancel it, then that day should have been the day. Not THE DAY OF THE TRIP!!!!
Now, there are three classrooms full of kids who are absolutely CRUSHED, and three teachers who were EXTREMELY ANGRY this morning!!!!
Why punish those kids like that? It's not fair to them!!!
Now, I am not about to sit here and behave like I am some expert on the ins and outs of the school system, but I called HISD (Houston Independent School District), and expressed my concerns with the parent manager. She says that she is going to look into this, and call me back today. I mean, I missed out on going with my baby daughter's class, trying to straighten this mess out!!! And, I have yet to receive my money back that I paid for myself, and Maya to go!!!! I will keep y'all posted. I notice that Houston doesn't encourage much parental involvement, but I have always been involved with my kids. This school system will see and hear of me often. They can count on THAT!
Thank y'all for all the comments, encouraging e-mails, Nicole's beautiful comment about me in her journal, and e-cards. Y'all mean so much to me. God Bless You ALL!

Huh!? just like that she cancells the trip? not prior notice? nothing!? I'm glad that you're involved in your childrens education, i think its important.
Major bummer, is it going to happen on a different day or is it off completely? Where were yall supposed to go? cause might there be a way that you and Maya can go one weekend or something?
Let us know how it works out.

I can't believe what I'm reading and have no clue what to say. Just like that? As far as I'm concerned that is a form of child abuse.

Awwww, those poor kids must have been so disappointed! Sorry to hear about that. You go get them, don't let them get away with that, lol!

that is just awful. I must say I don't think a field trip was ever cancelled with my kids. I sure hope you get an answer and your money back.
What a fiasco. The teacher probably had a hair crossways and decided it would be best for everyone if they all were miserable. I hope they get this sorted out. Maybe the field trip can be rescheduled. Oh, it's close to the end of the year, isn't it. Sorry.
